LEXINGTON, Ky – The National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) announced the appointment of Pam Cashwell as an Alternate on its Executive Committee.

Governor Roy Cooper named Pamela Brewington Cashwell Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Administration (DOA) in April 2021.  In that role, Cashwell oversees the state agency whose mission is to serve as a business manager for the state of North Carolina and a voice for underserved communities through its advocacy programs and boards and commissions.

“I am excited and honored to serve on the NASCA Executive Committee as an Alternate. NASCA has proven to be an excellent resource for collaborating with other state CAOs and sharing best practices in a variety of administrative areas,” said Cashwell.  “I look forward to working with the Executive Committee as we face the current challenges of managing government operations with fewer and fewer resources.”

DOA is a statewide administrator, managing government operations spanning from building construction, purchasing and contracting and state vehicles to mail services, surplus and state properties. The agency also provides facility maintenance services as well as programs for North Carolina's diverse populations.

Hailing from the Coharie and Lumbee tribes, Cashwell is the first American Indian woman to head a state cabinet department in the state's history.
