LEXINGTON, KY – The National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) announced the appointment of Barbara Goodson as an Alternate on its Executive Committee.

Goodson has twice served as Deputy Commissioner of Administration for the State of Louisiana, first from 2008 to 2010 under a previous governor and then from 2016 to today under the administration of Gov. John Bel Edwards.

She is the number two executive in the Division of Administration which is Louisiana’s management arm and the hub of its financial operations. The agency has approximately 1,600 employees with responsibilities that include budget development and oversight, the state’s construction program, facilities, state payroll, statewide accounting, purchasing, contracting, employee health insurance, state property insurance, technology services and numerous other programs.

Goodson has a long career in state government including serving as Chief of Staff for the Speaker of the Louisiana House, Director of the State Bond Commission, State Economist for the Division’s Office of Planning and Budget and Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Administration for the state’s higher education management board – the Board of Regents.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve as an alternate member of NASCA’s Executive Committee. Collaboration is a hallmark of this association, and I look forward to joining fellow administrators in efforts to address issues and challenges facing state governments today - particularly in this life after the COVID pandemic,” Goodson said. “Sharing experiences helps us as we strive to deliver the best product we can for all our citizens.”
